Hey ya, what’s your name buddy?
Hola Amigos, my name is Fabi, I am 22 years old and am about to finish my three month long trip.
Where did your trip actually go to?
I went to Costa Rica and Panama and I would love to have more time left. There are plenty things to see and to do, it’s incredible. I have chosen Costa Rica as my starting point, because the combination of the beautiful landscape with the rainforest, waterfalls, vulcans and stunning beaches and the possibility to go surfing, attracted me a lot. Another point was that I wanted to improve my Spanish.

And where did you stay?
I stayed in Hostels most of the time, as I think it is the best way to meet people. I went to Costa Rica alone but I always met cool people to travel with and was never lonely. Sometimes I slept in my tent, when I didn’t want to spend money or just when I felt like sleeping in the wild.
What surprised you the most about the country?
The Costa Ricans. Although there are a lot of tourists sometimes even too many, the inhabitants were always so friendly. They do everything to make your visit comfortable and try everything to help you. Maybe I was just lucky but I heard from a lot of people that they did the same experiences with the people.
In Panama you can find numerous beaches, which aren’t crowded at all and sometimes we had our private beach because there was nobody. The islands of Panama are so beautiful, one looks prettier than the other. White beaches, blue water, palms and the rainforest with a lot of exotic animals and even under water, while you are diving you see incredible creatures.

What was the funniest word you learned?
I couldn’t really improve my Spanish as I spoke English most of the time. But nevertheless now I can sing a song in Hebrew and am a starter in French now.
What was the best thing you’ve done?
I don’t really had this one special experience. My whole trip was just enormous ad the best thing I have ever done. I met friends for life, I climbed on a vulcan, and I saw so many stunning beaches and collected so many impressions from these two wonderful countries.
What the worst?
As I have so many good experiences the worse don’t bother me but I had situation that could have ended better :P. I have been out partying at one night and had to go from San Jose to Dominical early the other morning. I felt asleep in the train and ended up in Las Palmas- the last station. I went back and felt asleep again. I ended up in San Jose – the city I started in the morning. But in the end I had to laugh about myself – this is it what “pure vida” gives you. Don’t complain, see the positive sights in life and just enjoy the moment. And no time pressure.
What can we learn from the country/should adapt?
The motto of Costa Rica is definitely “pura vida”, you hear it everywhere and it is definitely something I want to adapt and implement in my life in Germany. The people in both countries work really hard – even though the people seem to be happy. They are always polite and relaxed and in a good mood. In Germany people are always stressed and take everything so serious. A good balance is perfect and people in Germany should take Costa Rica as an example in these terms. I mean that’s easy to say if you live in paradise and not in cold Germany: P
